The excretion of m-hydroxyhippuric acid by humans.

چکیده
The chromatographic behavior of several simple phenolic acids was described recently, and a description of the phenolic acids present in human urine has been given (2). Experiments aimed towards establishing a preliminary identification of many of the urinary acids revealed that several compounds having the characteristics of m-hydroxyphenyl acids are found. These include m-hydroxyhippuric, -benzoic, -phenylacetic, and -phenylpropionic acids, and another acid (Compound 2 (2)) which has many properties corresponding t.o those of m-hydroxyphenyllactic acid. Compound 2, however, has slightly different behavior from synthetic m-hydroxyphenyl-m-lactic acid on chromatograms. Other workers have reported the presence of m-hydroxybenzoic acid in pregnant mare urine (3), rabbit urine (4, 5), and human urine (5), and preliminary chromatographic identifications of m-hydroxyphenylacetic acid (6) and m-hydroxyphenyllactic acid (7) in human urine also have appeared. So far, there have been no reports of the existence of m-hydroxyphenyl compounds in plant sources which might explain the presence of these derivatives in urine. Because of a possible metabolic importance of m-hydroxyphenyl compounds, it was desirable to establish conclusively the identity of the quantitatively important m-hydroxyphenyl acids which occur in human urine. This paper describes the isolation of m-hydroxyhippuric acid from normal human urine, its identification, and some observations relating to its occurrence in urine.

Excretion of Avenanthramides, Phenolic Acids and their Major Metabolites Following Intake of Oat Bran
SCOPE Wholegrain has been associated with reduced chronic disease mortality, with oat intake particularly notable for lowering blood cholesterol and glycemia. To better understand the complex nutrient profile of oats, we studied urinary excretion of phenolic acids and avenanthramides after ingestion of oat bran in humans. METHODS AND RESULTS After a 2-d (poly)phenol-low diet, seven healthy me...
متن کاملUrinary 3-(3-Hydroxyphenyl)-3-hydroxypropionic Acid, 3-Hydroxyphenylacetic Acid, and 3-Hydroxyhippuric Acid Are Elevated in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders
Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a group of mental illnesses highly correlated with gut microbiota. Recent studies have shown that some abnormal aromatic metabolites in autism patients are presumably derived from overgrown Clostridium species in gut, which may be used for diagnostic purposes. In this paper, a GC/MS based metabolomic approach was utilized to seek similar biomarkers by analyz...
متن کاملEFFEC T OF AZELAIC ACID ON SEBUM EXCRETION RATE: A C OMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN TWO SAMPLING TECHNIQUES
In this study the influence of azelaic acid (AZA) 20% cream on the sebum excretion rate (SER) of 80 volunteers having mild to moderate acne vulgaris was demonstrated. Absorbent paper and Sebutape were used to collect the sebum and quantification was carried out by direct gravimetric method. It was shown that topical application of AZA creams could reduce the SER and number of acneic lesions...
متن کاملOrange juice (poly)phenols are highly bioavailable in humans.
BACKGROUND We assessed the bioavailability of orange juice (poly)phenols by monitoring urinary flavanone metabolites and ring fission catabolites produced by the action of the colonic microbiota. OBJECTIVE Our objective was to identify and quantify metabolites and catabolites excreted in urine 0-24 h after the acute ingestion of a (poly)phenol-rich orange juice by 12 volunteers. DESIGN Twel...
متن کاملAssessment of urea and other uremic markers for quantification of dialysis efficacy.
To validate azotemic markers as an index for intradialytic changes in solute concentration, we compared eight solutes (pseudouridine, xanthine, hypoxanthine, peak 4, peak 5, p-hydroxyhippuric acid, indoxyl sulfate, and hippuric acid) with five classical azotemic markers (urea, creatinine, uric acid, phosphate, and potassium). We determined concentrations by reversed-phase HPLC coupled to ultrav...
